The South Australian Government recognises the importance of the critical infrastructure that support everyday life in our state. The continued operation of critical infrastructure is essential to provide the services that support everyday life such as energy, food, water, transport, communications, health, banking and finance.

The Australian Government is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018. In addition, South Australia has its own methodology for identifying and assessing critical infrastructure that is specific to those assets whose disruption would impact the social or economic wellbeing of the State or affect the State’s contribution to national security or defence.

The South Australian Government and the owners and operators of critical infrastructure have a shared responsibility to ensure that the wide range of infrastructure that supports communities and underpins economic growth across all sectors is effective, efficient, secured, and resilient.

South Australia's Critical Infrastructure Resilience Strategy aims to build a shared understanding of critical infrastructure in South Australia and enhance the preparedness and resilience of the state’s critical infrastructure systems in the face of all hazards and disruptions. The Strategy was developed in connection with several government agencies responsible for critical infrastructure in South Australia and will guide future priorities in enhancing critical infrastructure resilience from 2023 to 2026.

The Strategy has three objectives:

  1. Effective identification and assessment,
  2. Improved resilience planning and investment, and
  3. Enhanced collaboration and partnerships with owner-operators and government.
